Passenger: “How long will this trip take?”
Drive: “About half an hour depending on traffic.”
Oh, the traffic, it’s a huge issue in this country. Imagine the day the Portman Bridge was closed and extend it to the whole day. No trip is fast. The roads are congested, under construction and “the opposite of the way the crow flies.” Just a few kilometers can take an hour. Traffic rules are just abstract ideas that don’t really reflect the actions of the drivers. Consider every rule you know and ignore it if it doesn’t suit you. Honking horns and flashing headlights are indications of your determination. If you show any hesitation you’ll lose your spot. As a passenger I sometimes close my eyes and brace myself for impact. And yet we are completely safe in the hands of our skilled, capable drivers. Butch, Remy and Paul in particular have astonishing driving skills! Thank you for getting us places safely while entertaining us with your wry humour.
