Malolos

The other day we had a fantastic tour of the city of Malolos organized by Doc Paul who regrettably couldn't join us but Erwin came along to join in on the fun. We were joined at the hotel by several other rotarians and then whisked off in two jeepneys. Along the way to the old city center, we came upon a church processional and stopped to watch the parade. Parishioners marched along carrying their church saints while marching bands played and groups of ladies waltzed their way down the street. Downtown we were treated to a private walking tour with a charming and more importantly knowledgeable guide. Shannon was even woed by a poet quoting traditional Filipino love verses. We toured two churches, saw several historial buildings and heard many stories along the way. It was a pleasant way to learn about the early colonization of the Philippines and some of it's old traditions. I was most impressed by the story of the women who struggled for emancipation here in the Philippines. We've met many strong, intelligent women during our travels here (Butch, Gina, Donna, Corina, Fely and Tess to name a few). I am sure those early pioneers would be proud of the way these modern women carry on their legacy. Our tour ended with a delicious private luncheon. YUM!! Followed by a private concert. Fabulous! Don't be surprised if I start to giggle the next time you serve me spaghetti! The group ended with a hilarious spaghetti dance, I think Shannon has the video.
